Jazz In The City - Preston Flag Market- 12pm -4pm- 1/6/19

~The definition of Jazz :- a type of modern music originally developed by African-Americans, with a rhythm in which the strong notes often come before the beat. Jazz is usually improvised (= invented as it is played).

The genre has evolved somewhat from it’s 1920s Jazz Age. Modern day  musicians such as Jamie Cullum  have given it a contemporary spin and more and more up and coming artists are coming forward to create a new and interesting slant on the genre.

One such person is UK based Harvey Brittain. Harvey will be performing as part of Preston’s Jazz and Improvisation Festival on Saturday 1st June 2019. The music starts at 12pm lunchtime with a 4 ‘o clock finish. It all takes place on Preston’s Flag Market, Preston Markets and the Harris Museum and with free admission it will certainly catch the attention of the interested public.

Acts performing at The Harris Museum include the following :-

  • Harvery Brittain ( on the balcony)
  • 1pm:- Aziz Ibrahim (1st Floor Balcony)
  • 2pm - Shades of Django (Harris café)
  •  3pm - Trio Nay (Harris café)

In the covered market you can expect to see the following acts:-

  • Astrid
  • Aziz Ibrahim
  • BtheLick
  • James Holt
  • Johnny Jay’s Guitar Flashmob

No set times are scheduled for this part of the festival.

The ‘Jazz in the Park’ section starts at 4pm and finishes at 8pm. Artists performing include :-

  • Zoe Gilby Trio
  • Jermaine Peterson
  • Vels Trio
  • Isa Cole and Friends (DJ Set)

The Flag Market, Preston Markets and Harris Museum will host Shades of Dango, Aziz Ibrahim and the Worldwise Samba Drummers.
The full festival features an international cast, ranging across jazz, funk, soul, hip-hop and more. There’s plenty to cater to all tastes and, with many events free to attend, it’s the perfect opportunity to experience superb live music, film and atmosphere.

Look out in particular for the Saturday evening showcase, derived by Manchester’s Idle Moments, as they bring Preston, it’s very own ‘pop-up jazz club’ for one night only.
