Loneliness Seminar- UCLAN - 4pm- 5.30pm- 13/2/19

~Were you the child at school who played on your own? As a teenager did you gaze out of the window longing for time out with your friends?
When you became an adult were you superficially happy in an attempt to hide your sadness?

These feelings are not uncommon. All of us experience some kind of loneliness at some point in our lives. Even if everything appears to be going well on the surface we may be experiencing some form of loneliness without even realising it.

Professor Pamela Qualter is a leading academic at the University of Manchester. Pamela is an expert on the subject of loneliness and she’s delivering a seminar tomorrow afternoon at UCLAN.

‘Loneliness Does Not Discriminate:- Loneliness Across the Lifespan’ will take place on Wednesday February 13th  between the hours of 4pm- 5.30pm. It will be based at UCLAN’S Brook Building Room 008.

Pamela will answer the following two questions :-

  • Why do social relationships matter so much to human beings?
  • Why does  loneliness affects us all?

It’s been proven that lack of social contact can have devastating affects on our behaviour, mental and physical health, as well as academic and career success. The seminar draws upon the findings from the recent BBC Loneliness Experiment led by Professor Qualter, highlighting important ways of tackling loneliness.

Although we may require different amounts of social contact, we all need others for our survival.

The seminar is free to attend, all are welcome and refreshments are available upon arrival. Register your interest by following the link and finding the event in the news section :https://www.uclan.ac.uk/news/events.php.
