Spotlight On CCG Members :- Miss Amy Kaherl

Jan, 3 2019

~~In the time frame of a decade or so an individual can achieve quite amazing things. The female mind is capable of delivering events which can help rejuvenate an ailing town and bring hope and opportunities to the community. Miss Amy Kaherl is such a person and is the focus for this month’s ‘Spotlight on CCG Members’.

Back in 2008 Amy had graduated from Fuller Theological Seminary. But it wasn’t a religious course that gained her an MA. It was in popular culture.
This knowledge and appreciation for social justice helped her become the co-founder of Detroit Soup, an organisation which was initiated in February 2010.

Here is a little background behind this empowering group:-
Detroit SOUP is a micro granting dinner that celebrates creative projects in the city and has helped Detroiters giving back to Detroiters over $150,000 towards art, social justice, social entrepreneurs, education, technology and urban agriculture. The model is now being replicated in over 170 cities around the world.

Due to the magnitude of Detroit Soup and how it is reaching more people on an international scale, Amy is now the Chief Curator and Builder of Global SOUP.This title hasn’t gone unnoticed by those in higher authority; Amy and SOUP have recently been honoured as a White House Champion of Change for their crowd funding efforts and have been recently awarded the German Marshall Memorial Fellowship and Red Bull Amaphiko Entrepreneur.
As well balancing life and work commitments she is also the Director of Curation and Programming at Ponyride. Ponyride is a collaborative makerspace.

By day she is Amy Kaherl the community activist and by night she is DJ Amy Dreamcatcher with her monthly party, Nothing Elegant.

Her talents surely demonstrate she is far from being a quitter. Her perseverance and determination to complete a task whether it be as a pro-active social entrepreneur or a super style DJ, we all thoroughly appreciate her efforts and we warmly welcome her to the CCG. Welcome.
