~The Moon. People have ventured on it, songs have been written about it and now, an art installation is going to recreate the size and force of the moon itself in a new demonstration coming to Preston.

Museum of the Moon designers are currently on a world tour and are coming to Harris Museum and Art Gallery this winter.

A 23 foot high moon will dominate the Harris suspended in mid air in the centre of the grade -  1 listed building. The moon is created by NASA imagery which fuses moonlight and surround sound music.

Cabinet member for leisure and culture councillor Peter Kelly expresses his words of joy upon having the Harris home for the installation and how it will no doubt create quite a commotion online,

“We are delighted to have this incredible artwork on show for visitors to see. Hosting an installation of such international repute is a fantastic opportunity for the Harris and the city of Preston. With the chance to stand below it to take photos it is sure to be very popular on social media. This will be a truly unique experience and one not to be missed.”

The event is one of many with a lunar theme. A month long programme of events containing the following five subjects will be covered:-

  • Live music
  • Film
  • Science activities
  • Talks
  • Creative workshops.

The Museum of the Moon goes on display from 2 February to 24 February 2019. It is free to go and see and is suitable for all ages.
