~When a house has no electricity it becomes dull and uninviting. It lacks warmth and security that comes from a family home. Neighbours, family and friends feel less inclined to visit the house as they are aware of the householder’s lack of light which presents a dark cloud on a potentially sociable evening.

In contrast, when a house has electricity it becomes bright, warm and inviting. Long evenings spent with friends and relatives become enjoyable due, in part to the input of light which sheds a comforting glow on the nights proceedings.

The latter is what can be appreciated on a bigger scale at northern light festivals. Through regional, national and international networking and collaboration LUTN nurtures artistic ambition through artist and producer development, co-commissioning and joint fundraising. The capacity and depth of cultural practice within the network enables LUTN to support emerging artists, explore technical innovations and create aspirational work to deliver a compelling offer for audiences.

Here is a complete overview of The Light Up North Festivals Taking Place now until early next year :-

  • Blackpool Illuminations: 31 August–4 November
