~A creative woman has much to offer the art world. She may have an eye for detail or an increased perceptive awareness of people and the world around her. These abilities  can greatly  influence the creative output of an artists impression resulting in an much appreciated exhibition.
When an artistic lady becomes disenchanted with modern life and modern men their art maybe affected.

On Wednesday 24th October 2018 Edge Hill University are hosting an evening featuring a film which reflects the above notion. ‘Female Human Animal’ is a psycho thriller shot in and around the city of Liverpool and London.

All the action was captured on a rare 1980s video camera with a uniquely lurid, nostalgic colour response, and deftly weaving fact and fiction, surrealism and reality.  Female Human Animal is a darkly romantic fantasia of a woman who goes beyond societal norms, paying homage to its guiding feminist spirit, the striking Lancastrian/ Mexican artist, Leonora Carrington. The also benefits from new music by OMD’s Andy McCluskey.

Novelist Chloe Aridjis is the ‘female’ in the featured film and the screening recalls a  2015 Tate Liverpool  exhibition which staged  a retrospective of the surrealist Leonora Carrington (1917- 2011). Chloe  knew the artist from her native Mexico, was made guest curator of the exhibition, and Chloe closely collaborated with the director Josh on the film.

Edge Hill University has supported the film since shooting began three years ago. The film will be introduced by the dept of Media’s Dr Lora Markova, post doc Researcher in Film and Media. There will also be an opportunity to have an in-depth question and answer session with both
Director Josh Appignanesi and Associate Director of ICE, Professor Roger Shannon, following the film screening. The film will be shown at Edge Hill’s Ormskirk Campus.
