Short Story Slam - The Harris - 7pm - 22/9/18

~Creative writing is a particular art form that is channelled through a quiet space with contemplative moments which promote creative thinking. So for a writer to come out of their comfort zone and into a wider domain in which they must read their literary work out to a public audience  would be an incredibly daunting and challenging prospect.

As part of the biennial Lancashire Encounter Festival, ‘The Short Story Slam’ will see 12 writers read their work out, before the audience hold up coloured cards to vote for their favourite tale.

Garry Cook, writer and host for the evening explains  how it works and the importance of the audience,

“Audiences enjoy the interaction of being part of this event, without any of the pressure of performing – you don’t even have to get up from your seat. The event does not work without an audience and I’d encourage anyone who wants to experience something amazing and different to come along, take a seat, be entertained and actually be part of the event.”

This will be a unique experience both for those taking part and the audience interaction. But more importantly for the local writers who may be shy and reserved about sharing their work and engaging with the community about subjects they feel strongly about. An incredible amount of courage and bravery is imparted to all who must read unbeknown to them the audience’s response.

The slam takes place on Saturday 22 September from 7pm in the cafe space at The Harris. It’s free to attend. Tea, coffee and alcohol will be served at the event.
