Preston Markets - Summer Entertainment - End July - Mid August 2018

Jul, 19 2018

~The new Preston Markets have been a much welcomed enhancement of the city’s continuous renovation plan for the past 6 months or so now. With it’s focus on food and its smart layout, it’s proves an attractive focal point for young people and the more mature amongst us.

This summer however it is expected to host cultural and entertainment based events which will, yet again transform Preston’s contemporary appearance in the 21st century.

Preston City Council haven’t failed to disappoint with the planning and organising for the following ‘must see’ events :-

During Saturday 28 July there’s a 12-hour danceathon taking place to Irish music. Raising money for St Catherine’s Hospice and the Whelan Joyce School of Irish Dance,  they will perform a couple of set pieces and the outgoing public can participate if they feel they are able. In addition, you can sponsor the dance troupe on the day or via their Justgiving page.

The following Saturday 4th August you can experience three very different events taking place across the market:-

1. Bees :- this is a walkabout performance and art installation all about bees, giving you the chance to explore their world and have a multi-sensory experience.

2. The Pentagon :- this will be a free - standing plywood installation which will give children the opportunity to draw and use paint pens to create a giant piece of artwork for the city.

3.The MASA Record Fair :-   situated under the Fish Market canopy, music lovers can indulge in varied collection of vinyl, CDs, tapes and music memorabilia.

In Mid August The Story Tent and The Rat Race are taking over the Market. Story Tent contains a very sweet little old man, who tells stories about all kinds of interesting objects. Rat Race is a surreal and darkly funny commentary on modern life, told by rats in an enormous  block of cheese. Both events will be performed on Saturday 18th August and are suitable for all the family.

Please note :- further events for September are due to be announced soon, as well as those taking place for the Lancashire Encounter on Friday 21 September to Sunday 23 September.
