~St. John’s Minster in Preston has staged some excellent musical performances over the last few years. With it’s atmospheric setting, beautiful architecture and professional artists it’s proved to be a real winner not just with local people but from people coming from abroad who may be travelling or have some European connection.

It’s this European theme that brings together a unique set of singers simply called The  Preston Orpheus Choir.  They’re performing  a series of  classically based songs including Mozart’s unfinished masterpiece “Requiem” as well as  “Ave Verum Corpus” .

The performance will commence in fine style this Saturday 12th May from 7.30pm -9pm  at St. John’s Minster. Tickets are priced £10 with under 18’s getting in free. You can purchase the tickets on the night, or, if you prefer you can book them in advance by contacting :- 01772 735 197.

The highlights of the evening will be the solo performances by Charlotte Trepess (soprano ) and Lucy Vallis ( mezzo soprano ). Philip O’ Connor will take care of the tenor and Robert Brooks will be on hand for the bass. The organ will be performed by Marc Murray.

In addition, the choir will effectively interpret several other European pieces, including Bruckner’s “Christus Factus Est”, “Os Justi” and “Locus Iste.” You can view a selection of their past work by logging on to You Tube - Preston Orpheus Choir.

The Minster can be found on Church Street, Preston. It is located amongst a thriving set of pubs and restaurants and not too far from the recently refurbished bus station.
