Preston Building To Become Arts Space - How You Can Get Involved

Feb, 15 2018

~When a transformation of a disused building takes place it can result in both intrigue and potential for it’s users. Preston has recently seen it’s markets have a complete makeover much to the delight of the locals as Preston continues to develop and enhance it’s credibility.

Towards the end of last year the arts collective ‘They Eat Culture’ got behind an exciting new project located at Guildhall Street which was previously home to a boys school.

Over the next twelve months building work is going to take place on a four storey building that will ultimately become ‘ The People’s Production Lab’.

This creative led initiative is going to be a performance space, experimental complex and run street markets. They Eat Culture’s Ruth Heritage speaks openly about what it will consist of, weekend involvement and reaching out to people to connect with,

“The People’s Production Lab will hold creative workshops and be a place to learn new skills and develop your own work. Throughout weekends we’re going to have a programme of tasty eats and drinks and a selling space which will draw you into the courtyard and basement. What we need now is to find people to do this with us.”.

Preston City Council’s cabinet member for culture and leisure councillor Peter Kelly expresses these words of elation and joy at the disused building being used positively and the significance of Preston being an identifying mark of creativity in the North West,

“I’m delighted that They Eat Culture have the opportunity to enjoy a base in Preston city centre over the next few months. This can only complement the number of arts and culture spaces we have on offer across the city at the moment, and it’s great to see the building used in this way. Preston’s regional presence for arts and culture can only be enhanced as a result.”

By April 2018 the building will become more accessible with events, workshops and more. More details on what type of events are happening, partners involved and when events are taking place will be released in the coming weeks and months.
