~Next year (2018) marks ten years since the Beijing Olympic Games. Although the games is primarily recognised for it’s sportsmanship, it was the opening ceremony that captured the essence of the games in all it’s wild imagination and wonder.

2018 is also the tenth anniversary of the UCLAN Confucius Institute. It was launched in 2008 as a unified partnership with UCLAN, Beijing International Studies University, and Hanban.

Over it’s ten year reign it’s enriched local activities with it’s cultural slant on arts related projects within the Preston community. It’s also been able to stage projects imported from abroad such as the Chinese New Year with performances shown at the Charter Theatre.

This recognised venue will be staging the 2018 Chinese New Year on Tuesday 20th February. Next year the performance will be Nanjing Little Red Flower Art Troupe.

This was the first children’s art troupe founded in China in the 1950’s.
It’s made up of over  200 students aged from 6 -12 who have performed at media related events in their home country, China.

The Uclan Confucius Institute will present the evening performance. The Preston Guild Hall and Charter Theatre is located on Lancaster Road, Preston, PR1, 1HT, opposite the Town Hall.

As well as creating  a wide following at home they are also praised in other  countries such as Asia, Europe and America. Local people have responded in awe with comments ranging from, “the best children’s art troupe in the world”, and “remarkably talented little artists”.

Still not sure whether to book tickets? This fact might confirm your decision, The troupe was twice awarded “National Advanced Group of Children’s Cultural Work” by the Chinese government.

Although it may not mirror the high production and stagecraft of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, when the Nanjing Little Red Flower Art Troupe comes to Preston on Tuesday  20th February 2018 we’ll really know about it and that is when we see the Chinese New Year really come alive in the Charter Theatre arena.
