STAR ( Stand Together Against Racism) March 2017 Preview

Jan, 18 2017

~For the past eight years or so, America has been led by a man whose people felt safe, confident and promoted equal rights  across all races. In just two days time the United States will have a very different leader who has spoken in the past of creating a disunited USA despite his claims of making ‘America Great Again’.

It’s not just across the pond that  conflict in races occur either.  The world over people are fighting over the colour of another person’s skin and the prejudices that are revealed because of it.

Last year more than 130 pupils from Broughton and Our Lady’s Catholic High School as well as Ashton Community Science College and Fulwood Academy were brought together in solidarity to speak openly and sing unitedly about race related issues.

Organised by UCLAN’S CCG, the Lancashire County Council's Children and Young People’s Service and  the Racial Equality Council it proved to be a resounding success and demonstrated that collectively change can occur and the removal of hatred, to love, is, a possibility.

Lancashire County Councillor Yousuf Motala had the following to say in the hope that this becomes a yearly fixture for the people of Preston,

"I sincerely hope that it will become an annual showcase event so that other towns and cities can learn from Preston's example and see that the people are united in their efforts to ensure that Lancashire remains a harmonious place to live, thrive and is a warm and welcoming place for all.”

This March 2017 we hope to repeat last years triumph at reaching the hearts of the people in our local community about the long term affects of race be it in hate crime or in a more physically violent attack too.

A collective group of schools are gathering together to raise awareness of race issues in an annual event simply titled, ‘STAR’ ( Stand Together Against Racism).
