Post Graduation Ceremony UCLAN 5th-7th December 2016

~Christmas may come just once a year but at UCLAN, at the heart of Preston’s city centre an important event happens twice a year. At the end of term there is the summer graduation ceremony and at the end of a standard calendar year there is the winter graduation ceremony. The latter was the central focus for last weeks degree ceremony which took place between Monday 5th December - Wednesday 7th December 2016.

 In total five award ceremonies took place, which included 1,500 undergraduate, postgraduate and doctorate students. In addition there was a series of honorary awards handed our to those that went that extra mile and have made a significant contribution to the local community.

They were as follows :-

James Cole - in acknowledgement of the significant contribution he has made to the tourism industry

Peter Hyett - in recognition of the significant contribution he made during his time at UCLan as Group Executive Director of Finance

Laura Massaro - in acknowledgement of the contribution she has made to sport

Professor Norman Burrow - in acknowledgement of the contribution he made to UCLan’s success during his tenure as Pro Vice-Chancellor with specific leadership responsibilities for developments in Cumbria, research and quality and partnerships

Arthur Whitlock - in recognition of his significant contribution he has made to the local community through his charitable endeavours.

UCLAN also gave a special award to Angela Murphy OBE, in recognition of the significant contribution she made to international development at UCLan. Angela became an Honorary Doctorate in honour of her work at UCLAN.

Families, friends and loved ones were given the opportunity to celebrate the students achievements  at Preston’s prestigious Guild Hall as they no doubt clapped, cheered  and cried at the hard work and  dedication of their graduated star.
