Wi -Fi Plans For Preston's Harris And Flag Market

Nov, 8 2016

~We’re living in an age where modern technology is the dominant factor that enhances the experience of the individual. If you don’t keep up, you miss out. It’s fitting then that a cultural fixture in the centre of a busy city is in line for a promotion.

The Harris Museum and Library in Preston has been contributing to the artistic education of it’s people  for many years.  Now in 2016 it’s looking to the future and a potential investment could see it making plans for wi-fi instalments throughout the Harris.

A £35,000 scheme is reported to be helped in giving the Harris the boost it needs. With complaints from customers about the lack of facilities it’s seems fitting that it gets a facelift.

Wi-fi will bring in more visitors and could even bring in more corporate or private rental of gallery spaces to increase revenue. The investment will bring a new vision for  Harris as it’s grows and develops to keep up with it’s neighbouring city contemporaries such as Liverpool and Manchester.

Mark Whittle, manager of Preston Business Improvement District had the following to say about this forthcoming new addition to the Harris,

“It’s good news that in this technology-led age that the city is providing a modern solution to visitors. It’s widely accepted that people like to use free Wi-Fi and this will provide an opportunity to enjoy it on a complimentary basis whilst visiting that area of the city centre.”

According to reports listed building consent would be sought once the finance of the project was agreed, with installation expected to take place early next year.

Overall it should prove beneficial to all. Staff will be able to work with mobile technology anywhere in the building and visitors will be able  to connect to technology more accessibly.

Building work for the £15m “re-imagining” project is hoped to take place in 2021/22.
