Local Hero Awdrs 2016 - Well Done Natalia

Oct, 13 2016

~We live in a world where sadly many people idolise celebrities and neglect the more noteworthy ones that are closer to home. People such as John and Marilyn McIntre who are outstanding grandparents. Or Tia  Taggart who was diagnosed with Ewings Sarcoma experiencing chemo and radiotherapy yet her positive attitude earns her a child of courage.

It’s the above and many more that were awarded as Local Heroes at Burnley Mechanics in the North West of England, Lancashire.

15 prizes were awarded to the most humble and deserving winners. Awards such as Charity Worker for Samantha Allan, Bravery Award for The Barnard Family and new for 2016 - Flood Hero of the Year to Jordan Taylor.

We at the CCG however want to concentrate our appreciation to the Community Champion which this year went to Preston’s Natalia from the Mystery Tea House.

You may have had  coffee and cake at her café and her community work may have gone unnoticed. Natalia, though has kept her warm, kind nature not just to the people of Preston but also abroad  by setting up a project to help communities in Gambia as well.

We want to congratulate her efforts in making Preston’s people feel valued and appreciated and in her charitable work too. Her smile is infectious as is her kindness. She has been the heart and soul of the community.

Well done Natalia!

2BR Radio were the organisers behind the event. 2BR managing director Simon Brierley had the following to say about the importance radio plays in supporting such an event,

"This is our largest ever Local Heroes awards as we celebrate winners from the whole of Lancashire for the first time. It's really rewarding and humbling to be able to give recognition to the volunteers, champions and community stars of Lancashire - and exactly what true local radio should be doing"

Other awards included:- In Memory of, Young Person and Pride of Pendle. The overall winners were Carole, Tia and The Jet Set angels.
