Greek Myth Theatre Show New Continental June 1st 2016

May, 17 2016

~In life we can so easily get carried away with dreamy ambitions or delusional ideas. This could be because life in general can be quite boring so to create a fantasy landscape can help us cope better with our routine surroundings.

When we attend a theatre show we can do the above. Take ourselves away from the daily grind and whatever worries and concerns we may have that come with it.

Greek mythology is the central theme around a new a theatre show coming to the New Continental in Preston on June 1st  .  Simply called
‘ The Oddity’ it is a  contemporary exploration of The Odyssey and is based around a girl called Tilly. She is described as a girl lost between ancient fiction and modern reality.

Described as a dark and humorous tale that turns the Greek myth on its head by telling the story from a female perspective. For the past three years Rose Van Leyenhorst has been developing the story and into theatre production with her company Out of Nowhere Theatre. She explains how the process began and the development of such a unique show,

“The Oddity was not created conventionally,” says Rose. “We tested the script and plot ideas in the rehearsal room with co-director Chris Hill and a cast of actors. It has been a continuous work-in-progress, with the script as a starting point rather than an endgame.”

Funding from the Arts Council England and backers of a Kickstarter campaign has made the imaginative world of Rose’s creative mind become a reality.

June 1st at the New Continental at 8pm is when the show initiates. Tickets are priced £8 or £6 concessions. Check the website for more details at www.newcontinental.net. You will also find a trailer for the show and contact details to book tickets ( 01772 499 425).
