Carlisle Health Mela This Saturday 14th May 2016

May, 12 2016

~Following on from it’s most recent visit to Preston, the Health Mela is making it’s debut appearance at Carlisle City Centre this Saturday 14th May.

The Community Health Mela (or Fair) is a friendly, festival with entertainment and activities.

Throughout the day you will notice a series of  “streets” set up in the city centre. These “Streets” will allow a wide range of Health & Wellbeing activities to take place under the following headings:

Health Advice and support (both statutory and non-statutory)
Listening Therapies
Complementary Therapies
Healthy Food and Cooking
Gardening
Exercise
Entertainment and Music

A key element of the day will be the “Health Olympics” - an opportunity for visitors to have a Health MOT with appropriate advice and signposting.

Here are some top three interesting facts about Carlisle that you may want to consider as you make your way to it’s premier appearance in the city centre :-

1. Sands Centre Sports Hall is Carlisle’s main entertainment venue. It has hosted credible musicians, thespians and comedians.

2. Ever August the Carlisle Food Fair is held in the pedestrianised area of the city centre. It features local produce including Cumberland sausage, Cumberland sauce and Cumberland Mustard.

3. In 2012 Carlisle was one of the official stop off points for the Olympic torch before it made its way down to the Olympic Games opening ceremony in London's Olympic Stadium.

Organisers of the day are eagerly looking forward to introducing the Health Mela to the people of Carlisle. If your part of the planning committee or have a stall from your organisation you’ll no doubt like to attend the standard breakfast meeting at the beginning of the day. Important matters are particularly addressed and is a motivational kick start to the days proceedings.

Carlisle is a city with a healthy heart - celebrating healthy bodies, hearts and minds. There will be something for everyone - Health Checks, CFM entertainment, smoothie bikes, healthy eating demonstrations, health advice and so much more.
