Sport Relief 2016 Coming To Preston

~We all need a little relief now and again, right? Since the 1980’s a global appeal has helped far out countries gain restored health and a brighter future. Today, ‘Comic Relief’ has provided a platform for 3rd world countries to gain greater freedom and opportunity.

In recent years a spin off event has been  established. Every couple of years activities have been held across the community to increase the emphasis of healthy living, exercise and a good diet. As well as helping to support ailing places that need reviving. ‘Sport Relief’ has achieved such an accolade.

Now in 2016 it’s back! Here’s how you can get involved in and around the Preston district. Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile returns to Avenham and Miller Park on Sunday 20 March.

There’s also a swimathon at Fulwood Leisure Centre from Friday 18 March to Sunday 20 March.

The events help raise millions of pounds for grassroots sports provision in the country, in 2014 nearly £72m was raised.

Avenham Park will have a one, three and six mile course available to runners. The swimathon has distances of 1.5k, 2.5k and 5k to be swum.

This years Sport Relief is attracting some big names too. In the world of sport Denise Lewis, pop music former  Spice Girl Mel C and sports journalist Jake Humphreys.

If you want to compete on the same track and field as Mel C or Jake Humphreys then you need to access the ‘Sport Relief’ website. On it you will find details about how to register, obtaining a free fundraising kit and how you can get sponsored and  change lives.

Entering the Sport Relief mile is £7 for adults, £3 for children and £17 for a family. The event starts from 10am, with staggered starts for each distance.
