Irvine Welsh Coming To UCLAN April 4th 2016

Feb, 4 2016

~20 years ago a cult classic novel became the benchmark for a film that would catapult the careers of Ewan Mcgregor and Robert Carlyle into household names. The nicknames in the movie became the talk of High School break times and quotes from the film became  the discussion around lunchtimes for teenagers across the UK.

I am of course referring to Trainspotting. It chose an alternative life for itself and used drug culture as it’s terms of reference. The author behind the book Irvine Welsh has no doubt identified that his Trainspotting era was one the highlights of his career.

Now in 2016, his latest novel ‘ The Blade Artist’ is released this year and is somewhat of a sequel to Trainspotting as it features the return of the notorious character Francis Begbie.

Irvine is set to introduce the audience to his new book with an appearance at  the University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN) on Monday April 4th.

The cost of the hardback edition of ‘The Blade Artist’ will cost £14.48 with Welsh giving an exclusive signing to all who wish to buy the book.

The evening will run from 7pm -10pm and will take place in the lecture theatre of the Harrington Building UCLAN. You can access tickets by visiting the Blog Preston website, now.

In 1996 director Danny Boyle took the brave task in developing the storyline from book ( thanks to Irvine Welsh ) into a film release. Boyle paid close attention to the characters, the plot and the drug culture which was at the core of the film. Had Welsh not created such an original story with wit and humour from the onset it would not have been such an iconic film in the midst of 90’s Britpop which it successfully complemented in a smart and funny way.

See Welsh present his new book on April 4th and be enthralled by this imaginative and descriptive writer.
