Harris Open Returns ...Dec 2015-Early Jan 2016

Dec, 16 2015

~We all like the familiar as opposed to the unfamiliar, so Preston’s art community will be pleased to welcome back a regular fixture in the artistic calendar.

Opening last Saturday ( 12th December ) The Harris museum and art gallery  began it’s annual ‘Harris Open’ event. This cultural celebration features more than 250 local artists exhibiting their work, be it in the realm of sculpture, ceramics, photography or  textiles.

Councillor Veronica Afrin, executive member for culture and leisure had the following words of expression for the people of Preston,

“It really is wonderful to see such inspirational work by so many talented artists all of whom live or work in the Preston area”.

Artists from the Preston Art Society had the opportunity this year to exhibit their work in a specially themed display catered for them. Young people also got involved in showcasing their work in the ‘Sparks’ group.

The public will not be disappointed as each year the bar lifts higher and more and more local people are emerging as credible and accomplished artists in their own right.

Veronica confirms the popularity of the event and champions it as the ultimate attraction throughout the entire year,

“This exhibition is one of the highlights of the Harris’ year and is incredibly well supported by the whole community.”

The preview of the exhibition took place on Friday 11th December. It is free to enter and is scheduled to run till Sunday 9th January 2016.
