Spotlight On CCG Members :- Professor Louella McCarthy

This next CCG member is of an antipodean nature. Professor Louella McCarthy is based in Australia and works within community engagement theory and practice, medical history and heritage and women’s history.

In 2002 she was awarded her PhD by UNSW for a thesis examining gender in medicine. Over the years she has crafted her work and co-edits Palgrave Macmillan’s Gender and History and  she is one of the review editors for Metascience and Health and History.

Professor McCarthy is responsible for Academic Community Engagement in the Graduate School of Medicine at the University of Wollongong.

She does considerable work into the ongoing history of regional and rural medicine in Australia, women in medical professional societies and community based medical education.

In 2015, she is Immediate past president of the Australian and New Zealand Society of the History of Medicine.
