Turbary Woods Owl and Bird of Prey Sanctuary

Turbary Woods Owl and Bird of Prey Sanctuary

Aug, 30 2021

If you’re a parent with young  children you’ll be investing in the new school uniform ready for them to return to education in the autumn. There is, however at least one week left of the summer holidays and the kids will be looking for somewhere to go to reduce the boredom.

Children generally have a curiosity with nature and the outside world so taking them to Turbary Woods Owl and Bird of Prey Sanctuary on Chain House Lane, Preston will be an ideal day out for all the family.

It is run entirely by a non profit group of volunteers. You will experience flying displays which allow birds to land on the gloved hand of visitors to get food.

The sanctuary is home to more than 80 birds of prey, including:-
  • Eagles
  • Hawks
  • Falcons
  • Owls
  • Vultures
All the birds are housed in large open fronted aviaries, sheltered in a woodland setting.

Emma who visited the sanctuary earlier this month expressed her appreciation for this unique place,

“This is a hidden gem. Really, really, worth a visit. The staff are lovely and informative, the little fairy houses are fabulous for kids, the owls and birds of prey are amazing. Highly recommended. The best thing I’ve ever done with my daughter in the north-west.”
