The Mobile Event Tent coming to Preston - July 2021

May, 31 2021

Major cities across the North West of England have felt the serious repercussions of the pandemic. The arts in general has been hit hard with many people unable to visit the places they love the most.

Preston has responded to such a request. A new pop up venue will be in use over the next year. It will be designed to help put money back into arts and culture in the area.

The space will be utilized to host live gatherings, giving a new home to arts and entertainment events covering theatre, cinema and performance based work.

According to the chair of the Preston Partnership  the Mobile Event Tent will begin in July 2021. It will take centre stage at the former site of the Indoor Market Hall which was demolished and is being used as a temporary car park.

The MET will consider three aims:-
  • Encourage people back into the city centre
  • Generate economic activity
  • Provide work for local artists
A planning application for the structure has been submitted to Preston City Council. For the initial trial period it will located at the proposed Animate cinema and leisure development next to Preston Market. As time permits it will be moved to other city centre locations when needed.

The cinema development is one of the many projects that forms part of the wider Harris Quarter Investment Programme.

Keep a look out for the pop tent which will deliver the promise in bringing arts and culture back into Preston.
