New Hub for the Young People of Pendle

New Hub for the Young People of Pendle

Feb, 2 2021

Would you agree that the last twelve months have been beneficial for young people? It would be a resolute ‘NO!’ Yet in stark contrast, Pendle has launched a new YES Hub offering Youth Employment Support for 16-24 year olds in the Pendle district who have been severely affected by the pandemic.

The YES Hub will include  the following:-
  • Access to training
  • Work placements
  • Learning and skills development
  • Health and well being activities
Councillor Mohammed Iqbal MBE, Leader of Pendle Council had the following to say about the HUB,

“We’ve secured a year’s funding from the Department of Work and Pensions for this exciting new initiative. The pandemic has had a huge impact on young people and the new Yes Hub will help people who’ve lost their jobs, or who are not involved in employment, education or training.”

The Yes Hub will operate as a virtual online hub during COVID-19 restrictions. It will then develop into an actual Hub in the former Training Apprenticeship Centre on Scotland Road in Nelson town centre and there will be an outreach into the local community.

Organisers believe this pro-active Hub will help young people improve their confidence and increase their chances of long term employment. This is also applicable to those who have left university and are finding it difficult to secure a job.

The Hub has been developed through a partnership from the following organisations:-
  • Pendle Council
  • Active Lancashire
  • Job Centre Plus
  • Lancashire Adult Learning
  • Nelson and Colne College
Young people interested in using the virtual service should email:-

Mims Davies MP, Minister for Employment had these words of encouragement  in light of the news,

“By rolling out Youth Hubs across local communities like this one in Pendle, young people will be able to access vital, suitable support from our Work Coaches in a range of settings.

Coaches will help to match them with local opportunities whether it’s more training or to help them move into employment.

This is a challenging time and we are serious about investing in young people as we get Britain back working again and moving further into recovery. That’s why, as part of our Youth Offer, we are also injecting £2 billion into the DWP Kickstart scheme, creating new, subsidised, high -quality roles for under 25s as we continue our work to protect, support and create jobs”.

The new project should not be deemed as a quick fix. The YES Hub will be incorporated into the Nelson Town Deal funding bid in order to secure it’s long term future for the young people of Pendle.
