Recent Statistics And Positive Vaccine

Jan, 25 2021

Nearly a month into ‘Lockdown 3’ and the third in the series is proving very difficult for a lot of people. It’s important at this stage to consider the recent cases over the course of last weekend (23rd and 24th January )
  • Preston recorded 93 new cases plus a further 77 on Sunday
  • South Ribble found 55 and 49.
  • Wyre gave us 39 and 40, while Fylde delivered 42 and 44.
  • Ribble Valley considered 25 and 33.
  • Chorley brought home 71 and 40.
Over the course of seven days Preston and South Ribble have featured consistently as the fastest rising infection rates in England. This isn’t all bad news however, as the recent COVID-19 vaccine roll in has created ‘brilliant progress’ according to the Health secretary.

Matthew Hancock warned the nation not to get too complacent about the vaccine,

“There is early evidence that the lockdown is starting to bring cases down but we are a long, long, long way from being low enough because the case rate was incredibly high. You can see the pressure on the NHS- you can see it every day”.

Since early January all over 70’s have  continued to receive these vaccinations as the category in the governments top priority groups. This period will conclude by mid February.

A staggering 491,970 people in the UK received their first vaccine on Saturday which equates to the total number of people  to receive a first dose in more than 6.3 million people.

Mr. Hancock also stated how the cases are increasing,

“There is not what we call community transmission where you find a case that you can’t find the link back to travel. At the moment it is all linked to travel”.

So even though the vaccine is beginning to do wonders, cases are still rising which means we’re definitely not out of the woods yet. This means we need to take home the three mantra saying once again,

“Stay home, save lives, protect the NHS”.
