NHS organisations invited to attend training for Healthcare Professionals

Aug, 19 2020

For almost six months the UK has lived in a universe which is alien to the common man. Hospitals have been inundated with excessive cases of COVID-19  and a visit to the doctors just for a general check up is out of bounds.

This being the case a lot of people have allowed themselves to let themselves go, adopting a slobish lifestyle as they may feel the local GP cannot help maintain their weight.

The We are Undefeatable survey of 1,300 people with long-term conditions revealed that the risk of Covid-19 was the greatest barrier to being active, and that loss of physical activity was increasing their stress and anxiety.

Thankfully, the nation has qualified Healthcare Professionals (HCPs) who play a key role in helping us beat the bulge. Figures show that one in four people stated that they would be more active if they were advised by a GP or nurse.

Public Health England and their mighty force of 47 Physical Activity Clinical Champions, formerly known as :-
  • GPs
  • Nurses
  • Midwives
  • And Allied Healthcare Professionals….
Are working together to encourage NHS organisations to book a free online training session for their HCP workforce, in order to become better equipped with the knowledge, skills and tools to speak to patients about the benefits of getting active.

The sessions will last between one  to three hours and will be available to book towards the end of September. The programme will be a revised edition  for Health Care Professionals of the current Chief Medical Officer’s (CMO) guidelines for physical activity and how to provide brief advice during consultations.

If you’re currently working as a HCP or managing a workforce of HCPs now is the time to change the outcome of a patient by positively engaging with those who have become deconditioned in response to the pandemic and signing up your organisation for a session today.

To find out more about the session and how to sign up, please contact the physical activity team on physicalactivity@phe.gov.uk

Improving the health of the population is a priority as the nation begins to recover from the first wave of Covid-19 and as further lockdown restrictions ease.  Physical activity will play a key role in building the nation’s health resilience and easing pressures on the NHS.
