Blackpool Lad Sets '33' Task in Response To Dad's Diagnosis

Blackpool Lad Sets '33' Task in Response To Dad's Diagnosis

Jun, 9 2020

When a child’s grandparent becomes unwell and their time is short, the child is sad but there is a measure of acceptance as they have reached a good age and  had a life well spent.

This differs greatly however when the child’s own dad has a life threatening illness. For many children they will react confused, upset and even angry.

James- lee Howick is an eight year old boy who lives in Blackpool.  His Dad ( Lee ) was recently diagnosed with bowel cancer.

Now James would have been  worried about his dad when he discovered the news but not long after the diagnosis he decided to set himself a lockdown challenge for his ‘hero’ father.

This was a unique challenge as it revolved around his Dad’s age (33). So James challenged himself to achieving a variety of tasks 33 times. This consisted of the following:-
  • 33 kick-ups
  • Eating 33 sweets
  • Blowing out 33 candles
The boy's relatives said his efforts had "raised the family's spirits".

You can watch James’s challenges on a You Tube video entitled:-
‘Young boy raises money for dad's treatments after being diagnosed with cancer | SWNS’ it is just under 2 minutes long and features edited footage of James performing his 33 tasks.

The Howick family want to try alternative holistic treatments which are not available on the NHS. Their son  James-Lee has already raised more than £10,000 for the cause.
