Capturing Life in Preston's Lockdown

Capturing Life in Preston's Lockdown

May, 1 2020

For almost two months we’ve been living in cocoon. But this isn’t a cosy, warm enjoyable one, far from it. People have been torn apart from family and friends. Loved ones have died untimely at the cost of such a global tragedy. The lives they once cherished seem  battered and bruised and it feels like we may never gain a sense of solace and serenity again.

Despite the bleak times we’ve been forced to accept there is something we can all do that may bring a slight moment of clarity amongst a blurred existence.

The Living City project by They Eat Culture and Mandala Yoga Centre, is encouraging Prestonians to capture life during lockdown by means of photos, film and audio recordings.

Smart phones are permitted  to film the footage as you go about  your daily exercise routine. It is hoped the documentary will have an eye on what it could mean to be a ‘living city’ in the future.

Lockdown will be reduced gradually as time permits but unfortunately we may have to live with social distancing for quite a while until the pandemic has eased considerably.

Ruth Heritage, of They Eat Culture reveals more about the project and how you can contribute,

“This is changing all of our lives – from how we live, learn, love, to how we socialise, share faith, be creative and keep active. As this changes, we want to explore the city through your eyes and experiences. If you’re worried about ‘not getting it right’ or ‘not having anything to say’, don’t worry, we will be hosting tutorials, Q&As, and sending you prompts so you can learn a bit and enjoy being involved. And if you don’t have a smartphone, we also want to hear from you, so we can support you to tell your story.”

You can get involved in the project by contacting Ruth via emailruth@theyeatculture.org or text 07708615877 for more details and info about what is happening and how you can send them your stories.

Please find and like The Living City page to get involved with their wider programme of activity happening over on facebook https://www.facebook.com/LivingCityPreston

Preston residents and ex-pats are being asked to take part in a video documentary about life in lockdown, filmed during their daily exercise.
