Preston 10k Postponed Till October 2020

Apr, 24 2020

~At this point in time it’s hard to imagine Preston City Centre being swamped with thousands of runnners because of the corona virus and restrictions on the country determined by the government.

The City of Preston 10k run usually takes place in September but organisers The Running Bee Foundation are following strict guidelines and are aiming instead for Sunday 25th October 2020.

The foundation is adamant that they are keenly aware of the health and wellbeing of all involved and they continue to help families in the long term when tackling the issue of childhood obesity.

A spokesperson for the foundation had these poignant words to say:-

“At this difficult time for everyone our thoughts are with the most vulnerable people in our communities but also with those essential people and organisations who are delivering incredibly important frontline services across our region. Many news outlets and commentators have said that the UK will be back to normality in September, and we truly hope this will happen”.

Despite this original September goal, organisers believe October is a more realistic timeframe.

The spokesperson continues :-

“As our country comes out of the COVID-19 period we want to ensure we do not put pressure on the already stretched emergency services, safety officers, volunteers and communities by staging events as those people and organisations are just beginning to get some normality back into their own lives.”

The proposed date for this year’s race is subject to approval from local councils and safety advisory groups. Last year’s race was cancelled due to ankle deep flood water and rescheduled.

A proposed October date has been set for this year’s City of Preston 10k.
