Living City Weekender To Bring Arts, Culture And Wellbeing Events To Preston

Feb, 21 2020

~Since Preston was officially made a city in 2002 it has grown from strength to strength. The influx  of students has surpassed the average enrolment at UCLAN for the academic year, more cafes and restaurants has given a financial boost  to local businesses and development in and around the University has changed the perspective of the city which will make it more attractive to newcomers and will share in the appeal of the city much like Manchester and Liverpool.

But there is still work to be done. An artistic two day event is being planned which is designed to make Preston a sophisticated place both to visit and to live.

The Living City Weekender is being organised by They Eat Culture. It’s billed as “a celebration of the best of what our city already is and an exploration of what a sustainable living city of the future could look and feel like”.

The event will include the following:-

  • A city feast
  • An edible garden
  • A day and night market
  • Film
  • Music
  • Dancing
  • Yoga
  • Workshops
  •  Debates
  •  Artist installations and much, much  more.

It will take place on Friday 24th and Saturday 25th April. Opportunities to get involved either as a  volunteer, a contributor, a business sponsor or a venue are available for those who can give of their time and resources.

Ideally organisers are looking for people who are able to work in the following four areas:-

  1. Performers for the night market
  2. An engagement artist to deliver their Veggie Sitters project
  3. A creative technologist to explore digital installations
  4. An audio-visual specialist to record, edit and share content.

In addition they are looking to support five projects to develop new artistic activity and social action ideas.

For details of how to get involved with any of the above opportunities, email info@theyeatculture.org. Follow the Living City Weekender Facebook page for programme details and updates.
