Feb, 11 2020

~It would be all too easy to reach for that pie in the fridge, to order a pizza or to visit your nearest McDonalds. We all may have done these things from time to time but thanks to an event taking place very soon it will equip us with the essential skills  to stay fit and well as the years progress.

The National Forum for Health and Wellbeing (NFHW) the organisation behind the popular annual Preston Health Mela, has teamed up with UCLAN’s School of Medicine, the  Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (LTHTR) and our very own Creative Communities Group (CCG) to bring the public an exciting interactive conference which will continually develop the themes of nutrition and health.

The free event is scheduled to take place at UCLAN ’s Greenbank Lecture Theatre on Thursday 20th February between 4.30pm and 6.30pm.

Throughout the course of the two hour duration you will be presented by a series of experts who will cover the topics of diet and nutrition in the following areas:-

  • Healthy life and ageing
  • Food allergies
  • Childhood obesity
  • Maternal nutrition
  • Life style

Commenting on the event, UCLAN  Pro Vice-chancellor (Clinical Health and Research) Professor StJohn Crean expressed these words of joy upon hosting such an event,

“UCLAN  is delighted to contribute and support this public engagement project. We are committed to ensuring populations remain updated and inspired to ensure health remains at the forefront of all life decisions.”

Here is a brief summary of the specialized doctors and the subjects they will discuss:-

Dr Pappachan Joseph, Consultant in Metabolic Medicine and Endocrinologist at LTHTR, will outline how choices in diet and nutrition can contribute to a healthy life and wellbeing both now and as we get older.

Dr Pavaladurai Vijaydurai and Dr Ariharan Anantharachagan, Consultant Clinical Immunologists at LTHTR, will describe how food allergies can be identified and managed.

Dr Omolola Ayoola, Consultant Paediatrician and Endocrinologist at LTHTR, will address issues of childhood obesity and strategies for tackling this epidemic.

Dr Victoria Moran, Associate Professor of Maternal and Child Nutrition at UCLan, will focus on maternal nutrition and lifestyle with reference to gestational diabetes.

Once the presentations are complete, you will be invited to join a group based on one of the four topics for questions and detailed discussion with the speaker(s) concerned.
