~It takes great skill and patience to perfect the art of drawing. If you want to build a career out of it they key thing is to build up a portfolio of your work and  look for ways to exhibit it.

Of course we may not have the  time or resources to make a living out of it but having it as a hobby is definitely worth attaining especially as it can provide valuable escapism from everyday life.

Beginning Wednesday 4th March a series of Drawing Workshops will take place at The Artistry House is Preston. It will be a three hour duration from 4pm - 7pm.

The sessions will be hosted by Chris Dorning, an Artist and Illustrator with over 15 years in the game. Chris will get the room warmed up by with a couple of quick draw sessions in which you will be asked to sketch what you see in front of you in very limited times ie (5 mins, 10 mins) this will help you loosen up and look beyond perfection as an end result.

The session will work predominantly indoors with the main focus on the quick drawing sessions, some still life, each other, light & shadow, observation and clothed models.

The outdoor option will look at nature, the river, bridges, landscape, light and scale. A camera may be useful if you want to carry on a drawing from outdoors.

At least 2 of the 3 hours will be sketching loose, thumb nailing and 1 hour will be dedicated to a full drawing. Opportunities to gain valuable skills will be available to enable you to grow and develop your technique.

The following three  dates are the next scheduled to take place:-

  1. 14th March - Saturday - 10am - 1pm
  2. 1st April - Wednesday - 4pm - 7pm
  3. 11th April - Saturday - 10am - 1pm 

These workshops are a relaxed zone with no finish line. You will be encouraged to draw to your strengths and step out of your comfort zone from time to time. There is no wrong way.
