Surge In Applications To Tread The Boards At Preston College’s New Performing Arts Academies

~A lot of young people visit   the cinema with the intention to unwind and escape. But for the dreamers amongst them they may  imagine whether career in the acting industry could for them.

You do however need to start somewhere to learn your craft and make that long term goal become a reality.

Local college’s offer courses for teenagers and mature students but there’s something very special about what Preston’s College can provide.

Since last September the college has found a surge in numbers of the performing arts courses thanks two new academies. The new Musical Theatre Training Academy (MTTA ) and Actor Training Academy (ATA) is introducing ambitious individuals to a series of state-of-the-art facilities, including a 100 seat theatre, rehearsal studios and TV and audio recording studios.

In addition the courses for aspiring actors and actresses include the following two:-

1. 1 year Level 2 Diploma in Performing and Production Arts
2. Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performing and Production Arts

The 1 year Level 2 Diploma in Performing and Production Arts  teaches all three core disciplines of acting, singing and dancing and is accredited by the prestigious University of Arts London (UAL).

The Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performing and Production Arts is a two year course, during which students may choose between the college’s Musical Theatre Training Academy where they study acting, dance and singing, or the Acting Training Academy, focusing on voice, movement and screen and stage performance.

Students enrolling on one of the above courses can definitely expect an enrichment trip. It could be  London or New York. This is an essential learning tool for them as it gives them the immediate experience of a live theatre show and the inspiration to forge out a career when they graduate and are provided with  an agent to help them.

Head of school Jane Tudor explains how the courses are taught, routes for progression and the incentive to reach the top:

“Over the past year these courses have been re-developed and adapted to support learners’ skills development to progress onto the next stage of their careers. Most progress onto drama schools, conservatoires and university on specialist courses, and we have good links with the leading schools. It helps them become the best performer they can be and gives them a real insight into the reality of this very dynamic, creative and competitive industry”.
