Helen Bingley qualified as a nurse at 18 years of age and developed her managerial career to go on and manage substantial change in the NHS, private and voluntary sectors in the UK and abroad in various organisations as Chair, Chief Executive, Executive Director, Non-Executive Director and Trustee.

With a keen interest in Equality and Human Rights Helen was a founder member and is Chief Executive of a UK Registered Charity the Abaseen Foundation UK set up to work in partnership with a Pakistan Social Welfare Organisation the Abaseen Foundation Pakistan, to develop health, education and research in Northwest Pakistan to improve the lives of some of the world’s poorest people. In 2018 the charity received a Queens Award for Voluntary Service.

In 2019 Helen was recognised for her contribution to voluntary work in the UK and abroad when she was awarded an OBE and appointed as Deputy Lieutenant in Lancashire.

With a keen interest in mental health, Helen is Vice Chair and has been central to the survival and development of Mind in Furness in Barrow in Furness for more than 20 years, one of the most deprived wards in the UK with one of the worst life expectancy rates.

Helen serves as a magistrate in the Family Court and represents the Lancashire and South Cumbria voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise (VCFSE) to influence the Provider Collaborative and the Integrated Care Board to develop an ‘equal partner’ role with the health and care statutory partners for the VCFSE to have an equal say in decisions made about the health and well-being of the population.

Helen is currently High Sheriff of Lancashire, appointed by the King as titular head of law and order for the county, taking care of the judiciary and emergence services, supporting the Lord Lieutenant with visiting royal family members and shining a light on the voluntary sector.

Living close to the Lake District, and with a qualification as a mountain leader, no matter what the weather Helen spends most of her leisure time leading people round the mountains learning to survive in the elements.
