Jane Rutt Howard

Jane is a Principal Lecturer at the School of Medicine and academic lead for the Physician Associate programmes.

Following a nursing career in cardiology spanning community, primary, secondary and tertiary care, she successfully trained to become what is now known as an Advanced Care Practitioner in 2005. Shortly afterwards was appointed Senior Lecturer at UCLan working with paramedics, nurses and allied health professionals to advance their skills and knowledge beyond initial registration. Since 2016 her involvement in addressing workforce challenges in the NHS has been in training Physician Associates.  

Her interests include non medical prescribing, evidence based medicine and facilitating learning in an inclusive classroom. Her passion resides in advancing the role of the Physician Associate across the North West and beyond.
