Prof Jan Golembiewski Australia Medical Architecture

One of the world’s leading researchers in architectural design psychology, with a concern for phenomenological experience and the neurological mechanisms that cause them. This is especially relevant in the psychiatric milieu, where aberrant perception systems mean that the built environment has a powerful influence on the very diagnostic symptoms and signs of the mental illnesses to be treated.

Jan’s research experience places him at the axis of current thinking about health facilities. He is on the editorial board of two academic journals and has guest edited a special edition on ‘Designing the Psychiatric Milieu’ for a third. In addition, Jan regularly judges the International Academy Awards for Design and Health. He has won 17 awards for his 33 publications and conference presentations.
