The Eden Project North Given Next Stage Go Ahead

Dec, 14 2020

20 years ago an environmental based attraction was created. Situated in Cornwall, The Eden Project was inspired by James T. Baldwin’s Pillow Dome and became a favourite for young and old once it was opened to the public in 2001.

Now, work is underway to propose a northern version which will focus on marine environment.

£1.2 million has been awarded to  develop  the next stage at the site in Morecombe.

Accordingly, The Lancashire Enterprise Partnership (LEP) is funding work needed for Eden Project North to prepare a planning application to be submitted next year.

The Eden Project charity is expected to open the attraction in 2024 in which they responded excitedly to the recent announcement.

The LEP gave definite confirmation that the project would be a fantastic economic boost to the seaside town and create an excellent series of jobs for people.

In November, the Eden Project asked the government for £70m towards the £125m cost of the scheme planned for Morecambe Bay, which it estimates will attract one million visitors a year and employ more than 400 people.

Steve Fogg an LEP chairperson commented on the positive effect of  the project,

"If successful, the Eden Project North will provide immense economic benefits to Lancashire and the wider region. It is going to make a huge impact on the local economy, it is going to be a huge attraction for Lancashire, it will support tourism and support the whole economic region of the coastline."

The Eden Project North will give further proof that there is so much more to Morecombe.
