As teachers we invariably encounter a variety of charged or difficult conversations in our richly diverse classrooms. We can struggle with the pedagogy of how to present controversial or contested interpretations of our history.

As a Head of Curriculum at Abrar Academy, an Independent Islamic Boys school in Preston, I have enjoyed developing and facilitating frameworks for understanding and identifying multiple perspectives. I have significant experience in overcoming cultural and religious sensitivities and facilitating for intercultural and interreligious dialogue.

I strongly believe in this tumultuous world, it is important to seek opportunities to engage with each other on a deeper level of what makes us human, through both our phenomenal commonality and our dazzling religious and cultural differences. I believe it is this active and open hearted encounter and dialogue between different cultures and religions for the purpose of affirming universal values as the urgent task before us.
