For 18 years I was a lone parent of two now grown up children. My youngest child has autism and well controlled epilepsy. Whilst leaving school with no qualifications my son taught me well and that it was a necessity of getting on in life and learning as much as I could about the new world I was entering. I had to adapt my learning which began with Makaton (a language programme which uses signing and symbols to aid the development of spoken communication).  My daughter also needed to find it enjoyable and fun. I trained as a nursery nurse in a diagnostic nursey and later, after more courses than I care to remember, completed a degree in Communication and Society with Media and Cultural Studies. I am hugely passionate about Makaton and mixing that kind of communicaton with personalisation. The reason for this is because this is how my family have lived our lives and now would like others. Life doesn't stop and to look further than the end of the street.

What makes me even more driven is that I too was diagnosed with dyslexia during my second year at university.
