Vortex by Russell Maliphant Dance Company

On 30th April 1994 the world witnessed something quite remarkable. It was during the interval section of The Eurovision Song Contest in which Riverdance made it’s debut performance to an amazed audience.

It was a 7 minute epic showdown of dancing wonder led by the dance supremo Michael Flatley. It remains one of the most watched dance performances of all time.

Times have changed in nearly 30 years and dance performers have adapted and developed their technique as they strive to impress and amaze audiences.

Vortex by Russell Maliphant Dance Company is coming to The Nuffield Theatre – Lancaster University on Thursday 27th and Friday 28th April 2023.

This captivating piece of dance theatre is interpreted through movement, light and shadow.

Following the 1994 performance Flatley left the troupe yet the remaining dancers continued.

Two years ago an animated feature film was released – Riverdance – The Animated Adventure. Demonstrating that it still has a place in people’s hearts after three decades.

The original performance though remains one of the greatest performances of all time. It’s legacy is in tact and will forever be that ‘classic moment’ in Eurovision.

Russell Maliphant, the internationally renowned choreographer, and double Olivier award-winner, brings his new show VORTEX to the Nuffield Theatre.
