Little Man Tate

21 years ago an English rock band formed in Sheffield. They had the lyrical wit of lead frontman Alex Turner accompanied by his fellow musician friends. When their debut album 2006’s ‘Whatever people say I am, That’s what I’m not’ crashed into the charts it became the fastest selling debut album in UK chart history and has been hailed as one of the greatest debut albums.

In their early career Arctic Monkeys combined the raucous punk element of The Buzzcocks and the stadium filling sound of a band like Guns and Roses.

Little Man Tate are the closest thing to the earlier sound of the Monkeys. Comparisons are great having both formed in Sheffield and share song themes that young people can relate to.

These days Arctic Monkeys prefer the smooth jazz sound found on recent albums – 2018’s ‘Tranquillity Base Hotel and Casino’ and 2022’s ‘The Car’.

This summer Sheffield’s finest will be headlining Glastonbury and sharing a stage with Guns and Roses mentioned earlier.
