Allan Atkinson Memorial Gig

At one quarter of Preston city centre is the commercially based music and video store HMV. Granted, they sell the latest releases from the biggest names in the industry. But if you’re looking for something more underground you need to walk towards the other quarter of Preston.

Action Records is THE store for any die -hard music fan. They sell CD’s and vinyl from artists you may not be as familiar with and the owners or just as passionate about music as the customers.

One long term member of staff was Allan Atkinson who helped setup Action Records with his friend and owner of the store Gordon Gibson.

His humour and larger than life character created a feel- good atmosphere in the store not just for his fellow work colleagues but also for frequent customers who visited the store.

Following a short illness Allan passed away on November 26th 2022. He leaves behind his wife Pat and children.

Gordon left a moving tribute on his Facebook account - “It is with a sad heart that I have to announce the death of my oldest friend and colleague Allan Atkinson who passed away peacefully on Saturday morning after a short illness.”

Organisers at The Continental pub – South Meadow Lane – Preston, wanted to give him a fitting tribute. A special memorial gig will take place on Saturday 8th April from 7pm. All proceeds will go to St. Catherine’s Hospice.
