The Toasters (NYC/SKA) / Doin' Sublime

Dates: 04 May 2023 - 04 May 2023

Location: The Continental Pub - South Meadow Lane - Preston

Last month the music world lost an iconic musician synonymous for the ska movement of the late 70’s and early 80’s.

It was his band ‘The Specials’ that gave him the breakthrough in music he was looking for. Terry Hall was frontman of the legendary group that had a wide following as fans connected with the political references to one of their biggest hits – the June 1981 release ‘Ghost Town’.

It was in this year that one of the original America third wave ska bands The Toasters were formed. They had the same energy as The Specials and similar ska sounds.

Take a look at the music video for ‘Two Tone Army’ and you’ll be able to see The Specials comparisons -

The Toasters will be performing a set of their own original material on Thursday May 4th 2023 from 8pm – 11pm.

Also on the bill is ‘Doin’ Sublime’.

Tickets are available to book from the following website link - https://theconti.squarespace.com/events-list/the-toasters-nyc-ska

You’ll also be able to read further information about The Toasters and their support act.

Following the demise of The Specials, Terry developed his skills as a songwriter and musician with two pivotal bands of the 1980’s.

Throughout the next 20 years he explored his talents on solo work and as a contributor to many established acts.

By 2008 The Specials reformed.  This led to live performances and a new record in 2019.

Terry Hall left us on 18th December 2022 from pancreatic cancer at just 63. Rumours prior to his death revealed The Specials were about to release a new album, which  never saw the light on day.

His legacy lives on in bands like The Toasters who will no doubt do a ‘Special’ set for the legendary musician.
