In 1971 American musician Don Mclean wrote the lyrics to a song which became a poignant tribute to a captivating artist. He was inspired to write the lyrics after reading a book about the life of Vincent Van Gogh.

The song captures the artist brilliantly with immediate reference to Van Gogh’s 1889 painting The Starry Night. It was released on Mclean’s 1971 American Pie record; the following year the song topped the UK Singles Chart for two weeks.

Now 50 years after it was first penned an exciting exhibition is currently being shown in the Media City, Salford Quays, Manchester which aims to bring the legacy of the troubled artist to the present day.

‘Van Gogh Alive Experience’ is running now until Sunday 23rd January 2022. This blockbuster multi-sensory experience completely immerses you in the life and work of Vincent van Gogh as you travel through periods of his life that defined him as an artist.
