What does it take to absorb the role of an artist? Is it the style of artistic direction or does it depend on the area  the artist chooses to create?

The terraced streets of the post industrial landscape was the previous inspiration for artist Florian Houlker.

He has since carved out his recent creations in Grizedale forest - a tranquil place of reflection in which one is completely at peace with nature and the environment around them.

Throughout Florian’s stay here the reoccurring word ‘wandering’ sees him trench through tracks and paths into the thickness of the woodland. These walks revealed questions of necessity and the fundamentals to the human artist:-
  • Identity
  • Water
  • Shelter
  • Food
  • Fuel
  • Light
  • Time.
These thought provoking experiences have led to a free exhibition of work entitled :- WANDERINGS - Florian Houlker. You can view his work at The Birley Artist Studios, Birley Street, Preston now until Saturday 13th November.
