Blackpool Illuminations hour extension over half term

Blackpool Illuminations hour extension over half term

Dates: 22 Oct 2021 - 30 Oct 2021

Location: Blackpool

If you’re a parent with young children you’ll be looking for something to entertain them with over the half term holiday.

The Blackpool Illuminations have fascinated the minds and hearts of young ones for years and during the last week of October organisers are making it extra special for kids.

From 22nd - 30th October the lights will be brighter for an hour longer! They will dazzle the public each evening for a week until midnight.

In addition to the illuminations, the popular seaside resort will be hosting a forth fireworks event this evening (October 23rd). Plus you and your family can experience the annual Lightpool Festival, that consists of light-based installations, projection shows and live performances.

A Visit Blackpool spokesperson reassured the public with the following words,

“We are mindful that the resort will be extra busy during the main October half-term holiday and this extension creates more time for people to enjoy the illuminations and Lightpool Festival. For the duration of the festival, there are some spectacular additions to the main illuminations display both on the promenade and in the town centre including some never seen before in this country”.

Visitors are advised that part of Central Promenade (between Chapel Street and Talbot Square) will be closed to traffic between 4.30pm - 7pm on Wednesday - October 27th.

The Central Promenade closure is set to provide a viewing area for the annual Illuminated Tram Parade where visitors will be able to watch the battleship HMS Blackpool, the Fisherman's Friend Trawler and the lottery-funded Great Western Train travel in convoy accompanied by the Spark! drummers.

You can also watch in wonder as illuminated giant puppets, Lumidogs, magical lanterns and carnival performers cavort across the parade.

For those visiting the Illuminations on October 27, VisitBlackpool advise that the temporary road closure will not allow vehicles to drive along the route of the Blackpool Illuminations after 7pm.

This year the Illuminations season has been extended until January 3, 2022.
