The Preston Orpheus Choir

The Preston Orpheus Choir

Dates: 30 Oct 2021 - 30 Oct 2021

Location: St. Leonard’s Church - Marshalls Brow - Penwortham

There is nothing like  the angelic sound of a choir singing classical songs. The performance is often  enhanced by the setting the choral group find themselves in.

The Preston Orpheus Choir was founded in 1929 and has continued to play a significant role in the musical life of the city.

It is a mixed choir of approximately 40 people aged between 18 -80. Each member has a profound love of singing and this is demonstrated when they perform a series of three concerts throughout the calendar year. This occurs in October, December and May. They also have a ‘Come and Sing’ performance at Easter time.

Here they are performing the Stravinski classic - Ave Maria:-
Now they return to St. Leonard’s Church, Marshalls Brow, Penwortham on Saturday 30th October from 7.30pm. They will perform The English Musical Renaissance.

It will offer music from:-
  • Sullivan
  • Parry
  • Stanford
  • Elgar

The main piece will be a composition by Vaughan Williams’ Five Mystical Songs.

The English Musical Renaissance will be performed by accompanist Paul Greenhalgh, organist Robin Stopford, soloists Susan Barnes (soprano) and Philip Walsh (baritone).

Admission is £10 but under 18s can attend for free. Payments are made on  the door.

It will be an evening of sheer bliss and tranquillity.
