ALAFIA - AFROFUNK, PALMWINE & HIGHLIFE

Dates: 16 Oct 2021 - 16 Oct 2021

Location: The Continental Pub - South Meadow Lane - Preston

The weather is getting cooler and the climate is changing so we need an event that will transport us to  sunny beaches and warmer weather.

A West African band is coming to Lancashire. Alafia is a group of four musicians from Sierra Leone, Ivory Coast, Cameroon and Ghana respectively, who play original music in the style of Afrofunk, Palmwine and Highlife.

The group’s original inception began in the early 1990s. It was Sam Maitland aka Papa Sam Alafia that was the  founder member. They toured the world and were well respected in the national press and music industry. Papa Sam however, moved to Manchester and the group took a hiatus.

Now the band are back together with the following musicians:-
  • Sierra Leonia -  Papa Sam Alafia - vocals - guitar and percussion
  • Ivory Coast -  Victor Mensah - keyboards
  • Cameroonian  - Sam Dengue - bass
  • Ghanaian - Kofi Adu - drums
The new version of Alafia played their first gig together at the Hootnanny in Brixton on August 2018 and now they’re set to replicate that same magic on Saturday 16th October 2021 at The Continental Pub - South Meadow Lane - Preston from 8pm till 11pm.

Tickets are £10 advance or £12 on the door. You can buy online at this website link:-https://theconti.squarespace.com/events-list/alafia-afrofunk-palmwine-highlife

It’s time to swap the wet, cold climate of Lancashire for the sunny warm beaches of Ghana and enjoy this fantastic West African fusion of high quality music.
