The Summer of Soul - Exclusive Film Screening

Whilst Woodstock was renowned for paving the way for the hippy/rock movement, another music festival  was causing ripples across the pond. 

 

Created in the summer of 1969, Summer of Soul never made it to the final cut for over 5 decades. The event featured black artists and was a poignant step in the revolution of black American musicians. 

 

Questlove from the legendary hip-hop band The Roots has taken on his directorial debut in what has been dubbed a critically acclaimed masterpiece. 

 

The Summer of Soul will be screened next Wednesday August 18th 2021 from 7pm - 9.30pm at The Continental, South Meadow Lane Preston. 

 

You will be able to watch in awe several familiar  black artists who  made defiant performances soon after the historic civil rights movement. These include:-

Plus many, many more. This film requires the big screen experience so you can appreciate the gravity of this time in black history. 

 

Jazzin’ the Park DJ’S will be providing a specially selected soul vinyl set as an introduction and outro to the film.

This film has been referred to as a  towering glimpse into the struggle for Black equality and the role music played in that movement. Book your seat into this never repeated time in black music history.
