We are Here - Exhibition

We are Here - Exhibition

Dates: 05 May 2021 - 16 Jul 2021

Location: Online and at The Harris Museum and Art Gallery

There was a time when the still image could only produce black and white colour. Yet now in the 21st century we see how a varied mix of colours can really enhance the final product. The perspective of the shot is often highlighted by the photographer and thankfully more women in particular black women are coming forward and demonstrating they are a force to be reckoned with.

From now until Saturday 17th July 2021 The Harris Museum and Art Gallery in the city centre of Preston is staging ‘We are Here - Exhibition’ at 12noon each day. The event is free to attend.

It seeks to celebrate the photographic artworks of UK black female photographers. These ambitious individuals have created powerful works of art to be viewed either online or in person from Monday May 17th on the Harris staircase.

This tour de force of the black female gender began in December 2017 when photographer, founder and director of UKBFTOG, Jemella Binns only knew a minimum of four other black female photographers. Binns felt overshadowed by the dominant male photographers taking the lead and so felt the black female photographers needed to be noticed and gained the recognition they so rightly deserved.

The exhibition covers a wide variety of photography genres including the following:-
  • Portraiture
  • Maternity
  • Fashion
  • Documentary
  • Landscape
  • Conceptual
  • Beauty

16 emerging and experienced cross cultured UKBFTOB exhibitors will present to an appreciative audience the collective theme- a colourful celebration of life.
